Introduction
India is bestowed with several agro-climatic zones conducive to the production of sensitive and delicate floriculture products. After liberalization, floriculture industries took giant steps in the export arena. This era has seen a dynamic shift from sustenance production to commercial production. Cultivation is undertaken in open farm conditions as well as state-of-the-art poly and greenhouses.
Products: Indian floriculture industry comprises flowers such as Rose, Tuberose, Glads, Anthurium, Carnations, Marigold, etc.
Area and Production:
As per National Horticulture database published by National Horticulture Board, during 2023-24 the area under floriculture production in India was 317 thousand hectares with a production of 2659 thousand tonnes loose flowers and 877 thousand tonnes cut flowers (Source: Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfares, Final estimates, 2023-24).
Major producing states:
Floriculture is now commercially cultivated in several states with Tamil Nadu (23.65%) followed by Madhya Pradesh (19.02%), Karnataka (15.60%) and Andhra Pradesh (10.55%), having gone ahead of other producing states like Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.

Floriculture: India's total export of floriculture was USD 88.58 Million in 2024-25.
Fruits and vegetable seeds: India has also been exporting fruits and vegetable seeds and exports during 2023-24 stood at USD 144.78 Million.
Major exporting destinations:
Floriculture: The major importing countries were U.S.A, Netherland, United Arab Emirates, U.K and Canada. There are more than 300 export-oriented units in India. More than 50% of the floriculture units are based in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. With the technical collaborations from foreign companies, the Indian floriculture industry is poised to increase its share in world trade.
Fruits and vegetable seeds: U.S.A, Netherland, Bangladesh, UAE and Thailand were the major markets of India's fruits and vegetable seeds.
